FREE REGISTRATION FOR MYBROADBAND WIFI

MYBROADBANDWIFI01

MyBroadband WiFi is an initiative by the Ministry of Energy, Water, and Communication to increase the accessibility of Internet through the usage of broadband in Malaysia. This initiative will also enable the public to access key government's web presences, and e-government services at any of the WiFi locations. MyBroadband WiFi is implemented through a smart collaboration between the government, the community, and the Internet Service Providers (ISPs), whereby each party would contribute different resources to the initiative.

Incorporated as part of the Penang i-Land 2010 Masterplan, the project is designed to provide the necessary infrastructure to realize Penang as a fully connected state by 2010 with reliable, fast broadband and affordable network infrastructure. A few strategic districts such as Batu Ferringhi, Batu Maung, Bayan Baru, Bayan Lepas, Bukit Jambul, Bukit Mertajam, Gelugor, Gurney, Seberang Jaya, Sungai Ara, Sungai Dua, Sungai Nibong, Tanjung Bunga, Tanjung Tokong and Teluk Bahang have already had the service booted up. More districts in Penang as well as Kedah would be up soon.

If you would like to try out the FREE WIFI SERVICE, do register yourself an account at http://www.mybroadband.gov.my to be eligible to surf for free. If you would like to be a provider to make Penang’s dream to be fully connected by 2010, just log in the service provider form to sign yourself up.

GUIDE TO THE BEST WEB HOSTING COMPANY AROUND

 WEBHOSTING01

I have been hearing numerous dissatisfactions amongst my friends that they have encountered many problems with their web hosting companies. They faced problems such as slow loading of their websites, websites not found and some even got hacked by some expert website hijackers. The worst thing is that they could not even get the web hosting companies to give them fast and reliable supports. This should not happen at all. A good web hosting company will never ever let its clients down. They should at least inform their clients on the upgrading period and will never fail to have a backup system in case the worst happen.

There are many web hosting companies around but who are those reliable ones that will give you quality hosting and support? According to Kaushal Sheth’s guide to the best web hosting sites, he recommended three web hosting companies that he had done detailed surveys and reviews on them. They are Host Monster, Host Gator and none other than the reputable Yahoo Host. Do check out on them as these companies do provide competitive rates to your preferences.

WEBHOSTING02

By the way, Kaushal Sheth also has some beautiful templates that you might want to use to freshen up your website outlook. Who knows with a fresher look, you might generate more traffic to you websites?

WEB CONFERENCING CAN SAVE A LOT OF TIME AND COST

WEBCONFERENCING

This is the era where the internet has further eased the convenience of communication. Businesses are now using more and more of the internet to deal with their customers globally rather than the normal face to face business approach. As a business grows, more staff would be employed and thus having meetings all the time would be costly and time consuming. Therefore web conferencing has now become a trend in the business world. Instead of arranging for venues and accommodations in some cases, some of the companies have already widely engaged the use of web conferencing packages in the comfort of their own offices.

I have come across many vendors offering similar web conferencing product, either through web hosted services or through using software. None has even come close to RHUB’s hassle free system which can also enable PC, Mac, Linux, Unix or even iPhone users to join in any scheduled meetings.

WEBCONFERENCING

All you need to do is to purchase their affordable appliance based on your own needs. It could be the setting up of 2 meeting rooms until many more combinations of rooms and attendees. You can refer to the graphic below on how cost effective by owning the appliance can be.

WEBCONFERENCING

Most people would be worried about the support they will need in case there are problems during the meeting. You do not need to worry as the appliance is very easy to use and it takes only one time deployment of not more than 30 minutes. Moreover, the appliance is IT maintenance free and the firmware is updated automatically.

WEBCONFERENCING

RHUB web conferencing appliance has been known to be used to host meetings for:
- Sales presentations and product demos
- Internal meetings within your networks
- Remote support for your customers
- Remote training & seminars
- Remote access to your computers in office or home
- Engineering collaboration
- Any real-time collaboration where desktop sharing is needed

If you have any enquiries, do check out their website. I am sure that your business will need this state-of-the-art technology to further boost up your sales.

TROUBLESHOOTING INTERNET LAGGINESS

Do you believe that troubles come in three? Firstly, my computer downloading was so slow until I almost fell asleep while opening my websites. Then, both my hotmail and yahoo mails were down and I could not even check my mails for days. Needless to say, I could not even receive or send any emails to my clients. There goes my income and it is not a small sum at the rate I have to reject many MNC projects. Even while you are reading this, I am still waiting for the Internet Service Provider (Maxis Broadband) to set their network problems right. Can you imagine majority of the subscribers could not even browse an international website or any websites with an international link?

What is the use of detecting fast access and yet I could not do anything online? I wondered why a big company like Maxis is reputable to provide good coverage but still have network problems most of the time. It is getting to be too ridiculous to pay for the monthly subscription for unlimited access and yet getting only a few hours of quality connection time daily. I guessed I might be thinking of other options soon but I have no ideas at all as all the local ISPs have many problems too. Even one of the best around does not provide facilities to residential or commercial areas. Anyone has any good suggestion?

The real reason of this post is to share some knowledge on my first connection problem. Even the best anti-virus and anti-spyware did not alert me on the silent intrusion. I had problems in getting advertisements by Nuffnang displayed properly in my websites or even log into their website. Even checking with the Nuffnang or Maxis technical teams did not solve the problem. They have 100% view of all advertisements in both my websites at their end. Installing and uninstalling the browsers and some programs did not help either. Without the help of my technical expert Azmeen, I did not know that there is such a thing as TROJAN DNS. This Trojan virus, spyware, malware or whatever you call it will not only slow down the system, it also redirects your IP requests all over to Timbuktu before coming back to your IP requests. In the end, I would rather sleep than to be online.

There are actually a few things I have found out that can help in speeding up the internet access as well as your computer. Firstly, get your anti-virus updated in real time. Secondly, you can read more in this forum on the Trojan DNS hijack. They will ask you to download a file named Fixwareout to run on your computer to solve the Trojan issue. It did help me and a few of my friends out in getting Nuffnang advertisements being displayed properly. Thirdly, over the months and years of computer usages, it will accumulate unnecessary junks and corrupted registry. This is another reason why your computer processing is performing like a snail. I have tried using CCleaner and it helps speed up things. You can try download the latest free cleaner at FileHippo website.

I do hope that my sharing here can help those people with slow access and processing problems. Do have a nice weekend ahead with your troubleshooting and faster browsing.

CAN SEE BUT CANNOT DOWNLOAD – YOU SURE?

I immediately fell in love with this “How The Cat Wakes You Up In The Morning!” video in YouTube but the problem is that I cannot download the animation for my own collection. The only way I can keep it is by embedding it into my blog.

It was said that “curiosity kills the cat”. I did not die from my curiosity to find out more by searching all over the internet for the ultimate solution. In fact, I gained more knowledge on the online file conversion. I found www.vixy.net. This service allows me to convert a Flash Video / FLV file (YouTube's videos, etc) to MPEG4 (AVI/MOV/MP4/MP3/3GP) file online. It is using a compressed domain transcoder technology. It converts FLV to MPEG4 faster and more accurate than most transcoder.

Converting a YouTube movie to the format of your choice is as easy as ABC. Here are the few simple steps:

VIXY01

1. Open up http://vixy.net and select the format you want.

2. Open up the YouTube video that you would want to download. For my case, it is “How The Cat Wakes You Up In The Morning!” Click on “Share” below the video. It will show a link (URL).

3. Copy the URL and paste it into the blank column in VIXY and press “Start”.

4. Upon completion, a pop up menu will be shown. Click on “Save to disc”.

5. Congratulation…you have downloaded your favorite video.

LENGTHY POST REMEDY FOR BLOGGER USERS

LENGTHY

If you have been noticing, I have done some modifications and housekeeping in my blog to enable my readers to have a smoother and easy browsing moments. Thanks to Azmeen’s advice on my blog’s loading time as well as how I should go about in eradicating the slowness of loading my page. I have searched through Blogger Help under “Expandable Post Summaries”. I managed to struggle through the “copy & paste” procedures by manipulating Blogger’s html codes. I did get my blog post to produce the “Read more” link but there was a problem with how the codes functioned. It appeared in all the posts, of which some may not require summarizing. That was quite irritating.

I Google for solutions for this problem and most people referred me to sites like hackosphere or freshblog where I can edit the Javascript to rectify it. For your information, Javascript looked so foreign to me. After browsing for quite some time, I managed to find the perfect solution with no Javascript needed by adding some commands in Blogger’s own pre-designed functions. I am going to show you the easiest way in few steps.

STEP BY STEP METHODS TO EDIT YOUR BLOGGER HTML CODES

STEP 1:
Sign in and go to your BLOGGER DASHBOARD. Go to SETTING/ARCHIVING, search for ENABLE POST PAGES, click YES and press SAVE SETTING.

STEP 2:
Go to FORMATTING/POST TEMPLATE and filled up the following codes, then press SAVE SETTINGS.

INTRODUCTION

<hr class=\'hr1\'><span class=\'fullpost\'>READ MORE CONTENTS</span>

STEP 3:
Go to TEMPLATE/EDIT HTML, tick the EXPAND WIDGET TEMPLATES box. Locate </head>, copy and paste the codes BELOW it.

<!-- BEGIN STYLE -->
<style>>
<b:if cond=\'data:blog.pageType == \"item\"\'>
.hr1 {display:none;}
span.more1 {display:none;}
span.fullpost {display:inline;}
<b:else/>
.hr1 {display:none;}
span.more1 {display:inline;}
span.fullpost {display:none;}
</b:if>
</style>
<!-- END STYLE -->

STEP 4:
Locate <data:post.body/>, copy and paste the following codes BELOW it.

<b:loop values=\'data:post.labels\' var=\'label\'>
<b:if cond=\'data:label.isLast\'>
<b:if cond=\'data:label.name == \"~skim\"\'>
<b:else/>
<span class=\'more1\'><a expr:href=\'data:post.url\' >Read more here…</a></span>
</b:if>
</b:if>
</b:loop>

STEP 5:
Press SAVE TEMPLATE. You have completed the editing of the HTML.

STEP 6:
Go to POSTING/CREATE. Click EDIT HTML. You will see that a line of preset code is shown there.

HTMLpix

INTRODUCTION is where you paste/write your introductory.

READ MORE CONTENTS is where you would want to continue your article when someone clicks on the “Read more here…” link.

EXAMPLE:
Here is my introductory. <hr class=\'hr1\'><span class=\'fullpost\'>My name is blah blah blah. I stay in blah blah blah. </span>

DISPLAY:
Here is my introduction.

Read more here…

WHEN CLICK ON LINK:
Here is my introductory. My name is blah blah blah. I stay in blah blah blah.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO TAKE NOTE WHEN POSTING

NOTE 1:
Most people will type in their article in word processing software (eg. MS Word) before copy and paste into the Blogger POSTING/CREATE article box. Make sure that you paste the article into EDIT HTML instead of COMPOSE area as “copy & paste” in COMPOSE will leave a lot of unnecessary codes. You can edit your fonts, color, hyperlinks after you are done in the EDIT HTML area.

COMPOSEpix

Use COMPOSE area if you decide to type in DIRECTLY.

NOTE 2:
If you have no intention of summarizing your post, please insert an additional label “~skim” in the LABEL BAR as shown below. This will shut off the “Read more here…” message.

LABELbar

NOTE 3:
The edited HTML codes WILL NOT WORK without at least a label.

SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW

RAINBOW

Can you see anything wrong with the photograph which I took recently? Yes, it is the rainbow. Even a rainbow has its bad day. There was no connectivity at all. It felt so lost. Where is the other half? What has happened to the full life of the rainbow? Mother Nature is supposed to make its life complete but why are there hiccups here? It has proven here that nothing will stay complete at all times. So is life!

Life has always been filled with mysteries and incompleteness. Everyday, we are seeking for more and more things to fill up our lives. Some seek companionships. Some seek monetary benefits. Some seek success. Some seek healthiness. Some seek career. Generally, most of us have something in common, that is we are always seeking for true happiness in life. How near are you towards your destination for true happiness? What are the success rate with what you have and what you have done in your life? Are you happy now or are you as lost as the rainbow?

Everyone have dreams in life. Making that dream become a reality lies in our efforts to make it come true. Do you have the courage and determination to strive for the best in your life? Will you give up just because of a few failures? Are you motivated enough to push yourself to go beyond your limits? The question marks will go on and on without an end if a person does not have a periodical timetable to assess his life.

Life is never like your computer OS (operating system) that you can reset and go back (restore point) to when there is a breakdown. There will be no turning back. It is always a straight path in your life journey. In that life system, there will be never ending of threats (virus, spyware, grayware) all the way. It is a matter of how well you maintain your virtues and philosophy in life (anti-virus, firewall) in order to find a solution to them. There are times where there will be some bad habits (unwanted files) which you will need to clear up (recycle bin) frequently to make sure your life run smoother. It may take some time to clear off as habits are not accumulated within a day. They gathered over many years of ignorance (unused programs, fonts, cookies, cache memory) and thus causing the outburst of the present side effects (slowness, system hang). Alternative solutions (disk cleanup) are needed as remedies to the problem. Constant monitoring (disk defragmenter) of your life system will surely help a lot. Haha… I sounded so technical here but it is the way how life is too.

There was an old saying stating that there will be a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Even though this statement was to be true, what will be your chances of making it to the pot of gold with how your life is now? Are you comfortable with it or do you feel that it is still incomplete towards your goals in life? Please do share your views here.

You can listen and watch to one of my favorite anime while sitting down and analyzing your life now. Have a great week ahead!

SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW BY FAITH HILL
(featuring clips from Japanese anime - Oh My Goddess)

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high,
There's a land that I heard of, once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream, really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star, and wake up where the clouds are far behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow, why then, oh why can't I?
If happy little bluebirds fly above the rainbow, why, oh why can't I?
