Nice duel post. I'm going to post some duel post again today! ;P
jjzai: aiyo...short teaser only lar.
kayatan: I guessed the company's vision is to get their animated works known internationally.
kenxu: well...it's Malaysia's 1st. As Malaysian, I sure support them. Moreover, their animation got international standards. :)
I have the same question like Jamy. No matter nobody knows it's from Malaysia.
bee ean tee: that you really need to ask the company
Aiya Criz, to get famous internationally, they should get a Malaysian name. Don't have to use a French name, in fact, using a French name loss its essence of being a buatan Malaysian.
I used my Chinese name here. Hoon Tan (America used 1st and last name). In fact my Chinese name is Tan Lay Hoon. For Chinese, Tan is 1st name, Hoon is last name. But here the American pusing, our surname become their last name. Since lay is my middle name, so my default Hoon become my 1st name.
Everyone here call me Hoon Tan. I have never changed to my husband surname after we got married(it is a norm for married woman to drop their maiden name to their married name, which is their husband last name) but I keep my Tan because I wanted to maintain my identity. Chinese !
Everyone know Wong, Tan, Lim is a common Chinese surname, like Smith for English or Mc... (something) for Scottish.
I truly believe the company should have a Malaysian name to retain its identity.
Again my 2cents for whatever it worths.
ive read about them in the newspaper. les' copaque does sound french, but it has no meaning they said, its simply "Last Kopek" which means last chance or last try. whichever sounds suitable. either way, i dont think it matters. its not the name, its the quality and value they have
Anonymous: Agreed on that...it's the quality of work and not the name that matters. BTW, where you from?
Hey Criz thanks for the post!
Our film is still in production and is set to be completed end of this year. Distribution to cinemas happens next year so expect to see it during the school holidays next year.
check out our blog and forum from time to time for updates and downloadables ;)
Hai Criz and everybody else! Thanks for the post.
Wondering why Les' Copaque instead of Hang Tuah Production. Well, it is purely marketing strategy. It is true that the name has no meaning in French except Les' which is "the". It was derived from "Last Kopek", the last card you peel or kopek when playing poker.. and you always have hoped that it will be the best card and make you win the bet.
We let the name as a challenge to the team,it is their last chance, if they cannot make it than we pack our bag and do something else.
We decided to use French because they are known for their artistic. Furthermore, the centre of film industries is in Cannes, France. Since our company is in French, it is easy for us to do business as what we had experienced recently during the MIPTV in Cannes.
As in Malaysia, since we are English speaking environment, the name is difficult to pronounce. So everybody asking how to pronounce it... so we simply say Last Kopek. So from Pak Lah to everybody they laugh when hearing Last Kopek and the name is well imbedded in their head. So everybody remember our company and meet our marketing strategy.
Anyway whether it is French or what ever, we would like to produce quality product for the country to be proud off. So please support us all the way.
Thank you.
Hi Atuk Ranggi...thanks for personally coming in here to clarify all the questions thrown in by my readers. It's good to see you here too :)
Well...I'll definitely support the Malaysian Team. Do come out with more quality animations like "Geng".
Congrats on having ties with China's Animation Company. Keep up the good work!
