NATURAL ALTERNATIVES FOR CLEANING AND POLISHING THE FLOOR

FLOORTILES

Vinegar: A few drops in the cleaning water will help remove grease panicles. Dull, greasy film on no-wax linoleum can be washed away with 1/2 cup white vinegar mixed into 1/2 gallon water. Your floor will look sparkling clean.

For Linoleum: Mild Detergent. Damp a mop using a mild detergent and water for day to day cleaning. Keep water away from seams and edges to prevent loosening of the
tiles. To preserve the linoleum floor you may wish to add a capful of baby oil to the mop water.

For Wood Floors: Vegetable Oil and Vinegar. Mix a 1 to 1 ratio of oil and vinegar into a solution and apply a thin coat. Rub in well.

For Painted Wooden Floors: Washing Soda. Mix 1 teaspoon washing soda into 1 gallon hot water and wash the floor with a mop, sponge, or soft bristled brush. This solution can also be used to remove mildew.

For Rubber Tiles: Mild Detergent. Avoid oils, solvents, and strong alkalis as they will harm the surface. Wash with clear water, a mild detergent, and a clean mop.

For Brick and Stone Floors: Vinegar. Mix 1 cup white vinegar into 1 gallon water. Scrub the floor with a brush and the vinegar solution. Rinse with clean water.

For Ceramic Tile: Vinegar. Mix 1/4 cup white vinegar (more if very dirty) into 1 gallon water. This solution removes most dirt without scrubbing and doesn't leave a film. Washing ceramic tiles with soap does not work very well in hard water areas as it leaves an insoluble film.

Club Soda. Polishing your floor with Club Soda will make it sparkle.

TEN WAYS TO EASE A COLD

COLDFLU

The weather has been very bad for the past few weeks and many people are down with cold and flu. Even my friend PapaJoneh was down with flu recently, making him a dangerous viral germs carrier which might affect his two few months old twin babies. Most people will just grab an aspirin when their noses started to run or their limbs begin to ache with pain. Why not try some alternative therapy for fast and natural relief. Below are the therapies which I am going to share with you.

HERBAL REMEDIES: Echinacea certainly deserves its reputation as the number one natural remedy for colds. It comes in many forms such as tablet, capsule, extracts or even tea. In case you have a sore throat too, try gargle with an astringent tea made with bayberry, myrrh or sage to soothe it.

VITAMINS: When the enemy strikes, take a divided dosage up to 2000mg of vitamin C throughout the day.

MINERALS: At the hint of a sore throat, take one zinc-gluconate lozenge every 2 hours for a week. It will soften the blow.

HOMEOPATHY: Remedies include Aconite at first sign of a cold, Oscillococcinum to zap a bug in the bud, and Allium to dry up a runny nose.

ACUPRESSURE: Partially flex either arm and apply pressure just below the elbow crease at the outer end. You can even press and massage from the top of your head down to the hollow at the base of your skull.

RELAXATION: Stress lowers your body resistance to viral infections. When you feel sniffles creeping into your life, try meditation or get someone to massage those aches and pains with some Eucalyptus Oil.

NUTRITION: Take more fresh vegetables and fruits. Stay away from those oily and spicy food. Clear chicken soup with chopped onions and garlic will be good as onions help clear the lungs, while garlic enhanced your immunity.

HYDROTHERAPY: To ease the bodily pains of aching limbs and throbbing head and stuffy nose, soak your feet in a basin of hot water with a teaspoon of mustard powder. You can even use essential oils such as rosemary or sage.

STEAM INHALATION: Make a towel tent over a pot of fresh herbal tea such as sage, eucalyptus or rosemary and breathe deep through the nose. You can even add a couple drops of the essential oils such as tea tree, lavender, or eucalyptus into a bowl of hot water and inhale the steam. The fastest way to inhale the steam is to make a cone from a piece of paper, cut off the tip and breathe in the steam through the hole. Local alternative to those essential oils is the minyak angin.

HUMOR THERAPHY: You feel lousy and easily agitated and this will make the germs grow stronger. Try watching a comedy show and chuckle all the way. This will stimulate the flow of feel-good endorphins. This therapy will provide you with a positive attitude to help you keep the bug from turning you into sickbed misery.

In case you still need some medication for those barking cough and painful sore throat, here are my two recommendations, Tussil for cough and Diflam Red/Green for the throat. Clarinase clears my running nose as it has no side effects such as drowsiness. Remember! When you are under the influence of a flu medication such as Bena, DO NOT DRIVE!

NATURAL DIY REMEDIES – PART 1

Criz’s Sanctuary

With the sudden change of weather, quite a large number of people are having some sort of flu symptoms, namely cough, cold, sore throat and dizziness. Thus, most people will just pay a visit to the doctor for treatments. The medication provided may contain antibiotics for speedy recovery. Sometimes, with a heavy schedule, we tend to forget to consume the prescribed medication. This will result in boosting the viral infection to be immune to the medication in future.

What is the next best precaution against this problem? Well, natural products are the best as it does not contain any chemical compounds. Here are some of the few recipes that have been taught to me by an older generation. Maybe by sharing these simple recipes, it might be of some use to you.

PREVENTION OF FLU (WHERE THERE ARE SIGNS OF FLU)

Slice one yellow pear. Add 2 bowl of water and some rock sugar. Bring to boil until it becomes a bowl. Add some lemon juice before drinking.

NATURAL CURE FOR FLU

Slice 25g ginger and one yellow pear. Add one bowl of water. Bring to boil, then lower the fire and boil until left half bowl. Consume while hot.

or

Pour 50 -100cc of red wine into a pot. Bring to boil. Add in one egg and stir. Drink when it cools down.

NATURAL CURE FOR DRY COUGH

Remove the seed of 2 pears. Add in some rock sugar in the pear. Double boil. Consume the pear and the liquid.

LONG TIME COUGH (SOMETIMES KNOWN AS 100-DAYS COUGH)

One carrot, 12 red dates. Add in 3 bowls of water. Boil with slow fire until left one bowl. Drink 3 tablespoon, 3 times a day for 4 days.

SORE THROAT
Note: Whenever there is any sign of an ulcer, stir one teaspoon of kitchen salt with half a glass of warm water. Gaggle the throat with the mixture at least twice a day.

Brew a cup of green tea. Add in honey when cool. Slowly drink. Drink a few times until the sore throat recovers.

or

For flu related sore throat: Blend 50 green beans. Add in a glass of water, some rock sugar and tea leaves (preferably Chinese or Green Tea leaves). Brew for 15 minutes. Drink until the sore throat recovers.

NOTE:
This is just some alternative suggestions to the above illness. If the sickness became worst, please visit a doctor immediately. The author is not responsible for any outcome that may arise from any other complications.
